Taxi Diary : PWD 111

It was already 10am and I am already rushing for work, fortunately, I found a cab as soon as I went out of my apartment building. It was a Vee taxi and has a plate number PWD 111. The driver was quite funny although he started by complaining about the construction being done on my street saying that it is a waste of money. He said the street was not broken anyway so he really wonder why the government even try to fix it. The driver has 10 kids and is from Bicol. He said he moved to Manila in the 60s and has been driving for a very long time.

He has 10 kids from two wives – he was a widower then got married for the second time, had 4 kids with the first wife and 6 kids with the second. Some of his kids were already professionals but some, he said, rebelled and did not finish school. He can’t blame them, he said but they are already grown ups and should already be responsible for their own lives. He only finished second grade and just worked hard to earn a living, and he is proud to say that he was able to give his family enough and even sent his kids to school.

I asked him if he has plans to retire. He is already around 63 but he said he wants to continue working as it keeps him alive. He really enjoys driving and staying at home will surely bore him.
